semiotics of music videos

The word semiotics means the study of symbols and signs. A sign could be anything a color a camera angle etc. There are 4 signs in the videos. The first one is mise-en-scene which means everything in the video whether it is the costume, set makeup, etc. example if there's a sad video song the lighting of the set will be low, the makeup would be light and the costume depends on where is actually the scene shot. if the scene is shot in a cafe/restaurant the costume would be heavier/formal clothing and if the scene is shot in a house or a room then the costume would be normal clothes. low lighting is a symbol of low anergy scenes mostly sad scenes. Now if we talk about happy scenes the lighting is bright, the costumes are heavier or branded. the symbols for showing a girl happy includes a girl going to shopping, a restaurant, eating a cake or pizza, and going to a beauty salon. Sad girl symbols include a girl sitting with her teddy bear and a girl sitting on a couch with low lights.

symbols of showing a person includes showing expensive cars, gadgets which are used by the person. if we talk about the location, to show a guy rich locations like 5-star hotels and big mansions will be shown.

to add suspense louder sounds of footsteps are used along with low-key lighting. There are close shots of the doorknobs moving.

if we talk about the camera work the sad scenes include closeups and the mid shots. suspense scenes are also shown with low-angle shots, mid shots and closeups as well as with over-the-shoulder shots.

These symbols are all actually myths like when a girl is happy she goes to shopping etc.
